Easy Homemade Body Wash

easy homemade body wash

Have you looked at the ingredients in your favorite body wash?  I have.  It’s not pretty.

I have to admit that I love scented body wash.  I had very sensitive skin as a child and was only allowed to use Ivory and Pure and Natural soaps.   Before liquid body wash was a thing, my friends all smelled like Caress and Dial.  I wanted to smell like soap, too, but those soaps irritated my skin.

By the time I got to college, body wash had taken over the soap market and Bath and Body Works was my favorite store.  I had seemed to outgrow my sensitivities and I bought bottle after bottle of my favorite scented body washes and lotions.  (Pear Berry, anyone?)

As I began to research natural living and wellness and found out about all of the harmful chemicals that are contained in body wash, lotion, bath gel and the like I knew that I had to give up my favorite scented bath products.

Going scent-free and getting used to smelling clean as opposed to smelling scented has been a big change for me, but it’s completely worth it.  My skin breaks out less, it looks healthier and I no longer deal with dry skin.

Since many natural bath products are quite expensive compared to their toxic counterparts, I decided to try to make as many products as I could at home.  One experiment that has gone well is my homemade body wash.

My homemade body wash is lightly scented with Citrus Fresh and leaves my skin clean, moisturized and smelling lovely.

Here’s the recipe!

Ingredients
  1. 1/2 cup of liquid castile soap
  2. 1/4 cup of olive oil
  3. 1/4 cup of filtered or distilled water
  4. 10 drops of Citrus Fresh essential oil (or any oil scent that you like)
Instructions
  1. Place ingredients in a mason jar.
  2. Put the lid on the jar.
  3. Shake to combine.
  4. Pour into a glass container of your choice for storing in the bathroom.
  5. You may need to shake the mixture before each use to recombine.
Notes
  1. Do not store this particular mixture in plastic. Citrus oils eat away at plastic. Use only a glass container to mix and to store.
